Antenna::Signals Issue.003:
All the Pretty Horrors
Tuesday, October 4, 6:30-9pm
@ Three Keys at Ace Hotel New Orleans | 600 Carondelet
Issue::003 of Antenna::Signals traverses the haunting crossroads of beauty and horror, featuring Antenna 2016 National/International Open Call selection Doreen Garner. Garner describes her work as identifying, extracting, and exploiting the tissues that bind the Sexual and the Grotesque, specifically in regards to the black female body. Her sculptures formulate a material mush of beads, Swarovski crystals, silicone, rubber, teeth, condoms, teddybear stuffing, vaseline, etc., held together by glass walls or latex membranes.
Doreen Garner will headline the evening. Additional featured Antenna::Signals presentations will probe subjects of exquisite ghastliness, including leaky cemeteries, transcendent funeral traditions, toxic beauty treatments, and predatory flowers.
