Antenna’s October Land and Labor Practice

Reading Mon. Oct. 28th, 2024 :: 6PM - 8PM

Antenna values antiracism and inclusion of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and condemns bias based on race, gender, sex, or socioeconomic status. The Antenna team (Board, Collective, and staff) is engaged in a Land and Labor Practice which includes a living Land and Labor Statement, equity book discussion practice, maintaining a public resource page, visiting local and regional historical and cultural sites and exhibitions, and using racial equity tools to guide our decision making.

Through this practice, Antenna pays tribute to the Chitimacha, Choctaw, Houma, and Tunica-Biloxi, and other Native peoples who are the original inhabitants of this land. We acknowledge that as a result of unhonored treaties and involuntary – and often violent – removal, they were often forced from their lands. Antenna honors them and their continued presence in our community and culture. We acknowledge the important impact of enslaved Indigenous and African people who built our city, structurally and culturally, including the food and countless traditions that they brought to New Orleans, which have become a backbone of our culture.

All are welcome to attend our Land and Labor Meeting, the last Monday of each month, 6:30-8 pm @ Antenna 3718 St. Claude. Please check our socials for updates.  As part of this practice we are continually updating and adding to the Resource List.

Join us in reading Emergent Strategy, by Adrianne Marie Brown, on Monday October. 28, 6:30-8 pm.  You can purchase your own book here or come to Antenna 12-5 Thursday – Sunday or Paper Machine Tuesday-Friday 10-5, to read one of shared copies.
