Call for Entries: 2nd Annual True Colors LGBTQ Art Exhibition

Press Street’s Antenna Gallery is pleased to announce the Call for Artists for the 2nd Annual True Colors LGBTQ Art Exhibition. The exhibition will take place August 9th through September 6th, 2014. Antenna will be accepting submissions in this open call now until through July 7th.

True Colors is inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s performance of the song by the same name as lady liberty wrapped in the Pride flag.

True Colors is meant to be a platform for continued dialogue between LGBTQ people and their straight allies. This exhibition aims to represent people of all sexualities, genders, races and abilities coming together in a wide range of media. True Colors seeks to illuminate the diversity and talent within LGBTQ artist and allied communities.

Our 2013 exhibition was held during the City of New Orleans’ inaugural LGBTQ Pride Month, featuring works by both emerging and established artists as well works by allied artists who openly asserted LGBTQ subjects in their works.

True Colors is open to LGBTQ and allied artists living and working in the United States. All mediums are accepted including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, design, glass, metalwork, photography, video, mixed media and installation art.

In addition to its recent growth as one of the top cities for contemporary visual artists, New Orleans is a premiere travel destination for LGBTQ visitors and is widely considered one of the most gay-friendly destinations in the US. However, the political climate towards LGBTQ persons in Louisiana can be described as hostile. Given the advances towards equality that have been made across the US in the last year alone, Louisiana finds itself at a crossroads between acceptance and repression of its LGBTQ citizens.

For its 2nd Annual Exhibition, True Colors seeks work that illuminates the struggles of LGBTQ communities across the US and in particular – the American South.
