DASH INITIAL
Dash Initial will feature Atlanta artists: Branden Collins & Madeline Moore (The Young Never Sleep), Kirstin Mitchell, Michael Oliveri and Erik Thurmond.
These 5 artists were selected in early 2015 as part of a two-year residency program with curatorial collective Dashboard that includes financial, artistic, promotional, and production support. The artists work in various disciplines – movement, installation, 2 & 3D, video and performance art – and represent a snapshot of extraordinary Atlanta-based talent.
Dash Initial is the formal beginning of the residency and will offer a sampling of each artist’s individual practice. In addition to this New Orleans exhibition, Dashboard will present a large-scale project by each of the same 5 artists in a U.S. city that is relevant to their career trajectory and Dashboard’s vision. New Orleans was selected to begin this project due to the community building Dashboard has been engaged in there since 2011.
“We want the national art community to get excited about Atlanta.” Dashboard executive director Beth Malone said. “Presenting work by Atlanta artists around the country will shine a light on the caliber of talent being cultivated here. Working with Press Street in New Orleans is amazing – they’re a prestigious platform for these artists and partner for Dash.”
Dash Initial is only the beginning of Dashboard’s partnership with Press Street. As part of an exhibition exchange program, Press Street will present Relative Humidity at Marcia Wood Gallery (Castleberry) on November 6 to 27, 2015. (Sponsored by Dashboard)
“Dash Initial is the result of a larger network-building project for us.” creative director Courtney Hammond said. “We’ll be doing a lot of moving around this year, but, simultaneously, keeping our presence felt at home.”
Dash Initial is on view September 12-October 4, 2015.
