JAAP BLONK + Death Posture Acoustique
byAnxious Sound kicks off our 2019 offerings with the New Orleans debut of world-renowned Dutch sound poet & vocal improvisor Jaap Blonk, our first presentation at the Dragonfly!
JAAP BLONK (voice)
with “Death Posture Acoustique”:
Donald Miller & Rob Cambre (acoustic guitars),
Chris Robert (minimal percussion), Emmalee Sutton (dance)
For several decades Dutch vocalist and sound poet Jaap Blonk has been at the forefront of extended vocal technique and definitive performance of many of the works of the sound poetry movement as initiated by Hugo Ball, Kurt Schwitters and others. As an improvisor Blonk has worked extensively with such first-rank players as Michael Zerang, Mats Gustafsson, Damon Smith and Dutch punk rock band The Ex as well as new music vocal innovator Joan LaBarbara. He is particularly renowned for the almost childlike freedom of his performances, with a magnetic stage presence and exaggerated use of his elastic facial features. The incredibly wild sonics & visuals emanating from Jaap Blonk combined with his keen ear for musical form & detail make for an unforgettable live experience.
