Launch of the Artist Book Collection at Paper Machine
Artist Book Collection at Paper Machine
6330 Saint Claude Avenue, New Orleans
The Artist Book Collection at Paper Machine (ABC@PM) is pleased to announce our Grand Opening. To kick off programming in the newly completed space, we have arranged an afternoon of lecture and discussion about book arts and small press publishing in New Orleans. Jeff Weddle, University of Alabama professor and author of “Bohemian New Orleans: The Story of the Outsider and Loujon Press,” will speak about Jon Edgar and Gypsy Lou Webb’s small press magazine, The Outsider, published in the 1960’s in New Orleans.
The Artist Book Collection at Paper Machine houses a rich resource of artist’s books for the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Envisioned as a teaching collection,
ABC@PM collects artists’ books in all media, editioned and one-of-a-kind, on all variety of subject matter. Interdisciplinary by nature, artists’ books move through the crossroads of visual art, literary art, graphic design, printmaking, bookbinding, papermaking, and publishing. ABC@PM is particularly interested in books in which the structure and actions of reading are integral to the content and the ideas within.
Jeff Weddle will speak at 1 p.m., followed by a champagne toast to the Artist Book Collection and its future. Visitors are welcome to explore the artist book collection throughout the event.
This event is free and open to the public.
