ALWAYS FOR PLEASURE by Les Blank
A gloriously exhilarating ground-level portrait of New Orleans street celebrations. Opening on a New Orleans jazz funeral, we follow preparations and partying for Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and parades for Saints Patrick and Joseph. Featuring wall-to-wall music by New Orleans luminaries such as Professor Longhair, Allan Toussaint, and legendary soul singer Irma Thomas, as well as countless smiling faces, mouth-watering food, and elaborate costumes that put Olympia’s Procession of the Species to shame, this is an incredible document of New Orleans at its gleeful height. (1978, 58 minutes)
NOLAsynchroniCITY is made possible with support from Press Street, Pat Jolly, Buffa’s Bar & Restaurant, and Charitable Film Network. For more information visit www.nolasynchronicity.com and www.lesblank.com/more/
