Robert Olen Butler at Arnaud’s

Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler, will speak at Words & Music, 2017 during the Literature & Lunch session at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8, at Arnaud’s Restaurant – Creole Cottage. Bob Butler is not only one of the very best
American writers, he is one of the very few fiction writers who also are good performers. His undergraduate degree is in drama. He will perform at the luncheon from his Pulitzer collection of short stories, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain, at the beginning of his talk, and from his new novel, Perfume River, at the end of his talk. Both books are about Vietnam refugees, many of them boat
people, who landed in Louisiana after the fall of Saigon. Bob served in Vietnam and has been back several times since the war, a transformative event in his life and he has captured the essence of what it feels like to lose everything and land in a new country.
