THE GREEN SCREEN – HANDMADE NATION
Please join us at THE GREEN SCREEN for an encore screening of HANDMADE NATION
Starting in 2006, Handmade Nation director Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities, logged over 19,000 miles and interviewed more than 80 individuals who are part of a tightly knit crafting community which exists both online through websites, blogs and online stores as well as within local communities around the world in the form of craft fairs, independent boutiques, modern day knitting circles and networking groups like the Craft Mafia. These individuals merge traditional handcrafting techniques with a modern DIY (do it yourself) ethos, combining historical crafting techniques and artisan skills with 21st century aesthetics, punk, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, the film explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination, and networking. (65 minutes)
Guests are invited to browse the crafty goods of the New Orleans Craft Mafia before and after the screening. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the film starts at 7:00 pm. Free Admission. Co-Presented with the New Orleans Craft Mafia and the New Orleans Film Society.
THE GREEN SCREEN is a monthly environmental film series produced by the Charitable Film Network and The Green Project, and held monthly at The Green Project Warehouse. All films are free and open to the public – so invite your friends!
