ROOM 220 Presents: Cristina Rivera-Garza, Yuri Herrera, and Michael Zell

Room 220 is pleased to present two of Mexico’s finest mid-career fiction writers (one of whom lives in New Orleans) as well as an up-and-coming New Orleans noir aficionado.

Cristina Rivera-Garza is one of the best and best-known writers in the Spanish language. She is the author of six novels, three collections of short stories, five collections of poetry, and three non-fiction books, all of which have been translated widely. She is the only author to twice win the International Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize, which she counts among her many awards. She is currently a humanities fellow at the University of California, San Diego.

Yuri Herrera‘s first novel in English translation, Signs Preceding the End of the World, was recently released to critical acclaim after years of the author’s success in his native language and country. He is also the author of Trabajos del reino, untranslated into English, and teaches at the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University.

Michael Zell is the author most recently of Run, Baby, Run, a New Orleans noir novel that the Los Angeles Review of Bookssaid “takes a buzz saw to the glamorous city New Orleans has purported to have become since Katrina, shining a light on the city’s myth.” He is also author of the novel Errata, both published by Lavender Ink.
