Description

This special edition of The Iron Lattice looks at the long history of spatial relationships in New Orleans and how visions of the future can align with our past while meeting the challenges of the moment. With watercolors of real and imagined places in the city by Tyler Rosebush and Henry Lipikis accompanied by an essay Holly Devon which touches on so many elements of New Orleans: the struggle between water and dry land, the 19th century pleasure gardens, how colonists and indigenous peoples changed the structure of the city. The structure is a wrap-around accordion, so the book unfolds to a 60 inch long narrative with no beginning or end.

The Iron Lattice is a print project that grew out of a network of New Orleans-based artists from all walks of life. Operating initially as a quarterly print publication, we have broadened to include web publishing and special edition projects. Chafing against the narrow confines of the high-art world, The Iron Lattice seeks to recognize and illuminate a cross-section of perspectives, and offer a window onto the many layers of reality that are part of everyday life into this most intricate of port cities. So far, we have released nine distinct print volumes each centered on a theme that investigates an essential aspect of New Orleans identity. Digital editions of each previous issue are viewable for free at https://www.theironlattice.com/magazine.
