New Orleans Loving Festival – LOVING DAY CELEBRATION

Please Join Us On LOVING DAY!
We’re celebrating the diversity of families in our community with an ice cream social and gallery opening for the photography exhibit “Of Many Colors.” We’re also honoring and the legacy of RICHARD & MILDRED LOVING, the interracial couple whose 1967 landmark civil rights lawsuit “Loving v. Virginia” ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.  Admission is Free so tell your family and friends. We hope to see you there!

OF MANY COLORS: Portraits of Multiracial Families
1:00pm to 7:00pm
OF MANY COLORS includes photographs and interviews with 20 families (children, teens, and adults) who have bridged the racial divide through interracial relationships and/or adoption. In a world where race is considered by many to be a formidable barrier between people, the families in this traveling exhibit have discovered richness and value in diversity. This exhibit of multiracial families has a great deal to teach about racial identity and racism. Photos by Gigi Kaeser. Interviews by Peggy Gillespie.  For more information visit Family Diversity Projects and LovingDay.Org.

GALLERY HOURS
Monday – Sunday from 12pm to 5pm (call 504-298-3161 before arrival)
Mixed Messages.4 and Of Many Colors will be on view through July 1st

ICE CREAM SOCIAL
4:00pm to 7:00pm

Please stop by and enjoy Ice Cream and non-dairy frozen treats (while they last). We’ll have kids activities, music, a “We Are The 15 Percent” slide show, and a photographer on hand to take family portraits!  We will also announce the winners of our Youth Essay Competition.

Hosted by the 4th Annual New Orleans Loving Festival in partnership with Press Street’s Antenna Gallery, Cox Communications, Southern Eagle, Whole Foods Market and Family Diversity Projects.  The New Orleans Loving Festival is a multiracial community celebration and film festival that challenges racism through outreach and education. For more information about Loving Festival events visit www.lovingfestival.org and follow the New Orleans Loving Festival on Facebook. The New Orleans Loving Festival is an initiative of Charitable Film Network, a Louisiana state non-profit.
