The Iron Rail Reemerges!
In the wake of a police crackdown on people allegedly involved with the Krewe of Eris Mardi Gras parade—which ended in the brutal beat down, pepper spraying, and arresting of many revelers who took part—the Iron Rail Collective, formerly at the corner of Decatur and Marigny Streets, was shut down due to “building code violations,” or something. For the record, the Iron Rail Collective aggressively asserts that it had absolutely nothing to do with the Eris Parade, and we at Room 220 believe them. Tomorrow, the collective will reemerge in the French Quarter as a volunteer-run book and art boutique, proceeds from which will go towards creating a lending library and community space. The new Iron Rail opens tomorrow, May 27, at 503 Barracks St. (at Decatur; adjacent to Gnome), with a celebration from 4 – 9 p.m. For the moment, the shop will be open from 12 – 6 p.m. daily. Viva la Iron Rail! Viva la revolución!
