KATRINA CRANES Alchemy of Falling Acorns and Ugly Ducklings is not only a selection of striking drawings, from a collection of hundreds, created in 2006 by children in New Orleans, to document their real-life experiences during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It is an attempt to articulate the survival strategy of centering how we learn AND evolve from tragedy.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Monique Moss is the Artistic Director + Choreographer of Third Eye Theatre Interdisciplinary and Improvisational Performance Company and the Director + Curator of the Louisiana Museum African American History (LMAAH). Rooted in strict research and deep listening to the calls of Ancestors, her interdisciplinary work centers historical and cultural connections that create the unique landscape for Afri-traditions and artistic expression In New Orleans. Presented locally, nationally, and internationally, her work has been supported by generous grants from the Surdna Foundation, Kellogg Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Fulbright-Hayes Program, Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy, New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund (NOTCF), Alternate Roots, Platforms Fund, Newcomb Institute, National Trust for Historic Preservation, National Parks Service, and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visial Arts. Moss holds a BA in French (Tulane University), MA in Latin American Studies (Tulane University), and MFA in Interdisciplinary Dance Performance (Tulane University) and MA in Museum Studies (Southern University at New Orleans SUNO).
