Description

Building off the uncanny religious terminology used in de-extinction science or “resurrection biology”, and its futuristic technologies aimed at returning to the past, this new project by Maria Lux explores extinction narratives and the cultural work they are doing in the time of the 6th mass extinction.

Maria Lux is an installation-based artist who makes work rooted in the cross-disciplinary field of animal studies. Originally from Ames, Iowa, she earned her BFA from Iowa State University in 2006, and her MFA from the University of Illinois in 2012. Lux is currently based in Walla Walla, WA, where she is an Associate Professor of Art at Whitman College.
