ABC @ Paper Machine hosts Carla Williams

Join us at the Artist Book Collection@Paper Machine for a special presentation and talk by Carla Williams. Carla will discuss her experience as an artists book collector as well as her book collection. Make sure you stay until the end to see the unveiling of Thilde Jensen’s artist book, titled “The Canaries”. Carla Williams is a retailer, writer, editor, and photographer. She is author of numerous essays and articles about photography and culture, and is co-author of two histories of photography, including The Black Female Body: A Photographic History with Deborah Willis. She is previously editor of the Chroma book series for the California Institute of Integral Studies and of exposure, the journal of the Society for Photographic Education.Williams received her MFA and MA from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and her BA from Princeton University. She was a Rockefeller Foundation Fellow at Stanford University, and was Assistant Professor and MFA Director in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology.Her retail store, Material Life, features fine art editions, rare and out-of-print books, and vintage items by black artists and designers.
