Antenna :: Guidebooks Open Call 2020

Submission Fee: $20. Add $15 to get a copy of the winning book mailed to you after publication. 

Antenna is soliciting proposals for guidebooks that take a deep dive into a singular topic, with emphasis on subjects related to New Orleans. This continues a series of pocket-sized guidebooks that includes, “Common Birds of New Orleans” by Alex Ross, “Do No Harm” by Kate Lacour which takes a deep dive into the collection of the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, “Quorum Call” a 2 year drawing journey by Amanda Burnham documenting every sitting US Senator, and a forthcoming publications by Sara White exploring the forest property at A Studio in the Woods alongside Biologist David Baker. Submissions can be either fully fleshed out, in process, or in the incubation stage. Publication size can be no larger than 4.5″x6″, full color or b&w, with no page limitations.

Though we are open to all styles of work, we suggest you familiarize yourself with Antenna’s publications before submitting. We encourage writers and artists from all backgrounds to submit, with a commitment to publishing prominent voices, as well as publishing first books and lesser-known authors and artists, particularly those who interpret ideas through the lens of New Orleans or have a connection to the city. 

Selected Guidebook projects will receive:
-$500 stipend (to be split among the authors/artists/collaborators)
-Antenna will provide layout and design assistance if needed.
-A first edition of 300 will be made under the Antenna::Press Street imprint. 50 free copies will be given to the authors (additional copies can be gotten by the author at wholesale cost). If the title is reprinted, authors will receive $1 per book royalty paid annually.
