COVID 19!
We have been closely monitoring the minute-to-minute unfolding of the global outbreak of Covid 19, and the reactions, interventions, and precautions that have been pursued as a result. Alongside colleagues that present art and hold space for creators, we remain committed to being an outlet for our community during this challenging time. Out of an abundance of caution, we are postponing upcoming receptions and public events. Our current exhibitions are open by appointment will remain installed until it is safe to gather again. We would simply not exist without the creators, supporters, and audiences that are at the center of our work in New Orleans, and so we want everyone to please take the CDC recommended safety measures to prevent the spread of infection. Minimize physical contact, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap, do not touch your face, and do not go out if you feel sick. If you are a freelance creator, here is a super helpful resource guide specifically for Covid 19 to help get through this challenging time.
At Antenna, we remain full of hope in the face of the international chaos that continues. We have implemented foot shakes as our favorite way to greet our friends and colleagues with limited contact, making us feel like we are doing a breakdance move from our youth. In seeing the beautifully designed series of public health posters that were recently created by the Shanghai-based design studio JWDK, it reminds us that artists and writers have always and will continue to play a crucial role at every level of our society, from creating ways to convey important information quickly, to being critical voices in these moments to bring levity. Our organization was founded 15 years ago in the months before Katrina, and in its aftermath the original Press Street Collective was committed to providing creative outlets in the face of societal meltdown. We continue to run with that spirit at our core, and please stay tuned as we hatch creative ways to continue to engage our work in the weeks ahead.
While our current public events have all been postponed, we’re looking forward to connecting with you virtually for the time being and in person again farther in the future. Please stay tuned to our social media outlets as we continue to watch closely the constantly shifting situation. We are working together to preserve our most important natural resource— the creative community that makes our city the most vibrant, beautiful, and incredible place in the world.
