DRAW-A-THON 2023
You won’t want to miss Draw-a-thon’s array of programs providing participants with an opportunity to explore the expansive nature of contemporary drawing with four areas: IN THE MIX, OFF THE WALL, OUT OF THE BOX, & ON THE MOVE.
Whether you are an artist or can barely draw a circle, we have fun for everyone! Drawing supplies are provided, and exciting workshops will happen throughout the day. Starts at 6:30 AM on 11/4 and goes until sunrise. The event will be held at 900 Camp Street (in the CAC warehouse). See you there!
All workshops and activities are FREE and open to the public.
A few reasons you may want to bring your pocketbook:
- Donations! Draw-A-Thon is free for visitors, but not free to put on. If you would like to make a donation you can do so at the door, or online by going to www. antenna.works/donate.
- Cash or card to purchase one of the many incredible Antenna Press books or Antenna Exhibition books from our welcome table
- We will also have Draw-A-Thon notebooks and T-shirts available for sale!
- Light concessions/snacks will be available for purchase during the event
- Food trucks will take cash or card for their service and be at the event from 11:30 – 2:30
- From 1:00 AM – 2:00 AM our trio performers welcome tips

Out of The Box | Latte Art Drawing | 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Latte Art Drawing What is better than drawing and coffee? Maybe a drawing IN your coffee? Or Drawing with your coffee? Join Tommy Leblanc from Hey!Coffee and Mr. Wolf from Mr. Wolf Espresso to learn about pouring and etching techniques when creating your own latte art. Coffee is available for purchase at the event. On The Move | Movement + Drawing | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Movement + Drawing We’re thrilled to start the morning with Chloe Moon, a teacher from Free To Be Yoga Studio. Chloe will guide the group through a distinctive movement class that will combine yoga with drawing . Invigorate your body, as this class presents an opportunity to explore figure, form, lines, shapes, and negative space in a fresh and creative manner. Remember to bring your own mat, and don’t be surprised if you leave with a few chalk smudges. |
Off The Wall | Doodle Buttons | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Doodle Buttons Doodle Buttons with Laura Gipson will utilize our convenient button maker machine, turning your unique artwork and doodles into personalized badges. |
In The Mix | An eye for A.I. with David Sullivan | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM An eye for A.I. Join us for an exciting artistic exploration in “An eye for A.I.” hosted by artist, David Sullivan. In this workshop, we bridge human creativity and machine intelligence. Participants will utilize a live webcam feed to import their drawings into a digital canvas, where advanced AI technology transforms and augments your art. In The Mix | Light Drawings | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM Light Drawings with Traven Stout Photographer Traven Stout will lead you on a journey into the world of light drawing photography. Discover the art of creating mesmerizing, abstract, and otherworldly images through long-exposure techniques. You’ll move light sources in front of the camera to craft your own unique light drawings. |
In The Mix | Crowdsourced Animation: A Collaborative Creation | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM Crowdsourced Animation: A Collaborative Creation Our goal is to bring people together in a fun and accessible animation project that everyone can participate in.You’ll receive a packet containing around 10 sheets of paper, each adorned with a drawing prompt. Your mission is to complete these drawings in sequence, transforming them into an exciting animation. The process is akin to a collaborative art relay. As you finish your packets, simply submit them to us. We’ll photograph your drawings in sequence, transferring the images to the computer, where the animation takes shape.Watch as your collective artwork comes to life on the wall. In The Mix | Direct Animation Workshop | 3:00 PM-5:00 PM Direct Animation Workshop A collaboration of the NOFF Cinema Reset program and Draw-A-Thon, this free, hands-on workshop introduces the process of animating through manipulating the surface of 16mm film! Participants will scratch, paint, draw, splice, and collage with 16mm to create animation. All ages are welcome, but children should be supervised by a guardian; sharp tools and potentially hazardous or messy materials will be in use (scissors, razor blades, sandpaper, ink, etc.) All materials are provided and no prior experience is necessary. This workshop is offered on a drop in/drop out basis. Come any time and stay as long as you like! Off The Wall | MiniZine Making | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM MiniZine Making Discover two creative techniques for crafting captivating mini booklets from a single sheet of paper. You’ll learn to create 8-page and 16-page zines, perfect for sharing your ideas, stories, or artwork. Beyond the basics, we’ll explore how to personalize, enhance, and share your zines, making them stand out. We’ll also explore various ways to employ, adapt, upgrade, remix, reproduce, and share your zinesThis workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced zine-makers alike. On The Move | ½ & ½ – Word Mashup | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ½ & ½ – Word Mashup Word lovers unite! Teams will come together to play with words through the medium of drawing. Word fragments will be joined to create full words, stacking up to a booklet of phrases to be enhanced and embellished. For instance, one partner may draw “SAND” while the second partner draws a “WITCH”. Teams will race to see which pair gets the most compound words in the allotted time. Hosted by artist, is. |
On The Move | Aerialist | 5:00 PM -7:00 PM Performance by Awakenings Aerialist Two aerialist from Awakenings will do a special performance with hoop and hammock in the center of the warehouse. Visitors are encouraged to draw the performers while they’re in space or witness them “drawing” lines in the air with their bodies. |
Out of The Box | Botanical Silhouettes: Contour Line Drawing with Plants from Nice Plants, Good, Pots | 6:00 PM -7:00 PM Botanical Silhouettes: Contour Line Drawing with Plants from Nice Plants, Good, Pots In this workshop we will focus on the dynamic shapes of our kin in the plant kingdom. We will focus on slow looking and visually describing the contours of plants through drawing to deepen our relationship with our photosynthetic friends. Hosted by Hannah Chalew. Out of The Box | Paper Monsters | 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Paper Monsters Join Cassie Tarr and Christopher Kurts as they keep the Halloween spirit alive and teach you how to make a monster out of paper, books, and magazines. Cassie will show you how to draw and design your monster then, using materials from the Mystic Krewe of Scissors & Glue, Christopher will show you how to fill in the details with cutouts from various sources, giving your monster that Frankenstein appeal. |
On The Move | Silent Disco | 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM Silent Disco Let the diverse music channels ignite your creative muse. The red channel might inspire zigzag lines, while the blue may evoke twisty, curvy designs. There’s only one way to discover it! Experience the Silent Disco, brought to you by Dohm Collective. |
Off The Wall | Figure Drawing | 10:00 PM – 12:00 AM Figure Drawing Join us for a figure drawing class led by Ron Bechet. The session begins with warm-up exercises to enhance your gesture drawing skills, followed by more extended 5 to 10-minute poses. Please be aware that this class involves nudity, and only photos provided by our professional photographers are permitted for reference. |
Out of the Box | Piece of Me | 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM Piece of Me Ida Aronson with Intertribal Collective will walk participants through a workshop creating images based on one’s culture and background. Watch as songs come alive with dynamic performances and illuminated lyric illustrations. Drawing portion starts at 11:30. Performances start at midnight. |

Belinda Moody GroupBorn in Brisbane, Australia, Belinda has lived and played music professionally in Amsterdam, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and since 2008, USA. Belinda graduated at the Victorian College of the Arts (1985-1988), and received a Diploma in Jazz Studies.As a trio, Autumn Dominguez, (alto saxophone/vocals) and Mike Clement (guitar) gather tonight to perform a selection of Belinda’s original music. Let the music inspire you as you draw into the wee morning hours. |

Out of The Box | Draw-A-Tron 3000 | On-Going Activity Draw-A-Tron 3000 Submit your wildest ideas into our famous Draw-A-Tron 3000. Input a prompt and the machine will produce a drawing. Please note, the drawing machine often needs repairs and breaks down when it gets overheated. Your patience is greatly appreciated. This year’s Draw-A-Tron was designed by Stan Danley |
Off The Wall | Whimsy post | On-Going Activity Whimsy post Stop by the Whimsy Post station presented by the Ministry of Supreme Happines. Create a postcard size piece of artwork and mail it to one lucky individual. |

Off The Wall | Confused Clock | On-Going Activity Confused Clock Embrace the Seasonal Shift! Sunday, November 5, is when daylight saving time concludes at 2 a.m., marking the return to standard time. To celebrate this transition, let’s come together and build a whimsical city around the confused clock tower. Our inspiration? The numerous cardboard boxes that surround us. Craft your own miniature world, complete with buildings, cars, shops, and houses, in this playful, perplexing city surrounding the bewildering clocktower. |
On The Move | Piece Work with ILGWU | On-Going Activity Piece Work Participants will use fabric remnants from ricRACK, and vintage hand crank sewing machines to create stitched and pieced collage drawings. the ILGWU (International Ladies Garment Workers Union) will provide table with hand crank sewing machines, two chairs, notions and materials. The goal of this workshop is to provide participants with an opportunity to explore using a hand crank sewing machine and textiles as a drawing tool for creating drawings.
