History Between These Folds: A Reading and Conversation
Big Class will host a special reading and panel to reflect on the History Between These Folds at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, at G.W. Carver High School.
The young authors of History Between These Folds will join acclaimed writer Kiese Laymon for a special reading and panel discussion, reflecting on the project and the histories the authors will write going forward.
In the 2016-2017 school year, 100 11th graders in a US History class at Carver High School collaborated with Big Class and acclaimed writer Kiese Laymon to write their own personal histories. The resulting book, History Between These Folds, collects their work about family, neighborhood, identity, and New Orleans–reconfiguring how we think about ourselves in relationship to broader sweeps of history.
Join us in support of New Orleans young writers and in celebration of this important book. This event is free and open to the public!
