Pop That Thang: Polo Silk
byPolo Silk has been photographing in New Orleans for over 30 years. A regular at nightclubs, second lines, block parties, and everything in between, he has photographed tens of thousands of people (often multiple times throughout the years) dressed in their finest.
This exhibition highlights some of the most memorable rap and bounce songs from the city by showing some of the best poppers in action. Prominently featured in the photos, which include 35mm, Polaroid, and digital, are his signature backdrops commissioned by his cousin- artist Otis Spears. In addition, Polo influenced the scene while he was out documenting it, passing on tapes and demos of performers to DJs he encountered as he worked.
