Upcoming Programming in 2020: Reflections on Water
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Antenna is excited to announce that we have received support from the National Endowment for the Arts for next year’s upcoming program, 20/20: Reflections on Water.
20/20: Reflections on Water will present a series of artistic projects that encourage New Orleanians to understand and explore the integral and yet often unseen role that water plays in their everyday lives. Water is all around us; it is the fundamental characteristic of our natural environment and the primary influence on our built environment. And yet it’s only in the wake of disasters like Katrina, or even more recently the city wide flooding from heavy rain in August 2017 and Mother’s Day 2019, that many residents stop to reflect on its profound impact on the past, present, and future of our city. By using the city’s waterways, waterfronts, and pump stations as both subjects of artistic exploration and sites where projects and educational programming take place, 20/20 will create a robust dialogue around water literacy that aims to foster city-wide awareness and stewardship of our water systems, involve residents in shaping policy and practices, cultivate regional and international leadership around water management, and amplify the voices of underrepresented communities in these processes.
Taking place throughout the year 2020, the series as a whole will look back at the ways in which water has shaped New Orleans throughout its history while also imagining and planning for a future in which the city becomes a model for environmental adaptation. With ongoing environmental crises that threaten the survival of communities in our region, it is imperative to empower one of our city’s greatest assets — its artists and creators — to make this link between our history and our future while reminding all of us of the inimitable cultural identity that we share as New Orleanians.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1558129724619{margin-top: 10px !important;margin-bottom: 10px !important;}”][thb_image image=”21067″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Image: Tavares Strachan’s 2014 project, You Belong Here was facilitated through Antenna’s Spillways Residency and presented as part of Prospect.3.
