MIXED MESSAGES: Multiracial Identity Past and Present

A group exhibit, featuring artwork by Niko Busciglio, Helen Maurene Cooper, E. Paul Julien, Michele Burton-Oatis, Stephanie Hierholzer, Aubrey Roemer, Karel Sloane-Boekbinder, Chase Markovich, Paige Valente, Christopher Porché West, and Jerald L. White.  Organized by the New Orleans Loving Festival.

The New Orleans Loving Festival (NOLF) is a multiracial community celebration sponsored by the Charitable Film Network and Press Street. NOLF is modeled after “Loving Day” multicultural celebrations across the country that organize people to fight racial prejudice through education, and build multicultural community.  Loving Day also honors the legacy of Richard & Mildred Loving, the interracial couple whose 1967 landmark civil rights lawsuit “Loving v. Virginia,” ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

Food by Chef Aiji and Chef Juba Kali from The Burrito Juke Joint.  Music by DJ Yamin and DJ Dubla.  Drinks complements of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum.  Please join us for other NOLF events in June, including  One Big Hapa Family and Loving Day.

Also this month on view thru July 3rd: The Phoenix – Featuring artwork by New Orleans visual artist KEN MENTEL.  On view June 11th – July 3rd
